Music

Music plays an important role in the school life at St Andrew’s and is an integral part of our curriculum and collect acts of worship. Children are always taught to enjoy and make music from their earliest days in our Reception class. They go on to compose their own pieces and to appreciate a wide range of music.

All children are taught singing and take part in many performances of singing throughout the year, such as Christmas productions.

Children in Year Five all learn to play an instrument and begin to read music through a project called ‘Soundstart’.

Children in Years Three to Six have the opportunity to learn the keyboard and guitar. Through a range of after school clubs there are opportunities for children to learn stringed instruments and drums.

We have linked up with outside organisations, such as the Orchestra for the Age of Enlightenment. These provide children with fantastic experiences, for example performing with other schools in an opera.
