Admissions Policy
St Andrew’s is a Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School. The ethos and practice of the school encompasses Christian values and our aim is to serve both our church and local community.
We encourage prospective parents to come and view our school. There is an open day in the first half of the spring term every year. Prospective parents are welcome to make an appointment to see the school at any time.
As a one-form entry school we will admit thirty new entrants each year. All new children will be admitted to the Reception Class in September, after the child’s 4th birthday.
Priority will be decided by the following criteria.
- Looked after children.
- children who have brothers and/or sisters already attending the school at the time when the admissions policy is implemented.
- children whose parents are practising Christians regularly worshipping at the following local churches: St. Andrew’s, Thornhill Square; All Saints, Caledonian Road; Church on the Corner, Barnsbury Road; and the Paget Christian Centre, Randells Road. A letter from the vicar or minister of the church must be enclosed.
- children whose parents/guardians live in the Borough of Islington and are committed members of and regularly worship in other Christian Churches and Chapels.
- children who live within the working parish of St. Andrew’s with Holy Trinity and All Saints N1 whose parents desire them to attend this school because of its religious tradition.
- children whose parents/guardians are willing for them to take full part in the Christian life of the school.
- other applicants.
The school is committed to taking its fair share of vulnerable children who are hard to place, in accordance with locally agreed protocols. Accordingly, outside the normal round of admissions, the governing body are empowered to give consideration to a child where admission is requested under any local protocol which carries the agreement of both the governing body and the diocese for the current admission year. The governing body has the power even when admitting such a child would exceed the normal admission number.
Notes:
- Looked after children are children in the care of the local authority.
- Brothers and/or sisters already attending the school refers to children who live at the same permanent address and have the same arents/guardians at the time the admissions policy is implemented.
- Regular worshippers of a church shall have attended the church for at least one year, with an attendance of at least two occasions per month.
- In all the above the term “parents/guardians” refers to the person or people who have legal responsibility for bringing up the child.
- When deciding between applicants who ostensibly have equal entitlement under the criteria, the governors will have regard to the proximity of the applicants’ homes to the school. Priority shall be given to those children whose permanent address is closest to the Matilda Street entrance of the school, measured by the shortest walking distance. Evidence of address, such as child benefit book, may be requested.
